Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions awards $375,000 to
develop new colon cancer screening test by MetabolomicTechnologies Inc.
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – May 15, 2013 – Metabolomic Technologies Inc. (MTI), an Alberta-based company that develops advanced metabolomic-based diagnostic tests for chronic diseases, was recently named the recipient of a Knowledge Translation Strategic Initiative Grant by Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions(AIHS) in the amount of $375,000 through the Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund (ACPLF).

TEC Edmonton and client Metabolomic Technologies Inc. (MTI) were recently featured in a Vancouver Sun article, "From Idea To Commercial Success." Journalist Scott Simpson looks at how universities are becoming more aggressive in pairing research and skilled students with investors and entrepreneurial experts.
TEC Edmonton told him it could provide an opportunity to refine his research, attract investment, build a business and create jobs in his community.
He said yes. That was in 2008.
A company, Metabolomic Technologies Inc., was incorporated in 2010.
Today, Fedorak is “a long way down the road” on what he describes, so far, as “a good ride” thanks to TEC’s support.
“It’s hard to say I couldn’t have done it without them, but I probably couldn’t have done it without them,” Fedorak reflected.
The 11th Annual TEC VenturePrize Business Competition is open and accepting registrations from innovative Albertans starting technology-based businesses. The winner and finalists will be announced at the annual awards dinner to be held April 17, 2013 at the Westin Hotel in Edmonton. TEC Edmonton clients recognized by both ASTech Awards and Venture Magazine
TEC Edmonton, Edmonton’s not-for-profit business incubator and accelerator for technology-oriented start-up companies, congratulates its clients and 2012 TEC VenturePrize winners for recent achievements.
Five clients and VenturePrize winners were recognized at the 23rd annual ASTech Awards Gala, held at Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Centre on Nov. 2, 2012.
Three other TEC Edmonton client companies were recognized by Alberta’s leading business periodical, Alberta Venture. They were included in the magazine’s Top 25 Most Innovative Alberta Organizations story appearing in its November 2012 edition.
Produced by the Alberta Science and Technology Leadership Foundation, the ASTech Awards are the province’s most prestigious science and technology awards.

SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS TEC EDMONTON EARLY-STAGE SUCCESS
Client companies creating wealth and hiring new employees
TEC Edmonton’s clients - early stage technology companies - are doing great!
Wanting performance metrics to judge its impact on the early-stage companies it serves, TEC Edmonton sent out a survey to 85 clients it had worked closely with from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2012.
The results are a cause for celebration at Edmonton’s not-for-profit business incubator/accelerator.
The 74 companies who completed the survey (out of 85) earned $73.4 million in annual gross revenues in the 2011/2012 fiscal year. And they raised another $27.5 million in investment capital. Further, they increased employment from 600 jobs to 750, a 25% increase.
Of the $73.4 million in annual gross revenues, 80% came from companies with gross revenues of $500,000 or less.
